Structured to Meet the Specialized Needs in the Treatment of ALL Eating Disorders:

• Clients are housed in a 22-bed primary residential facility and a 4-bed specially designed cottage for the physically challenged and morbidly obese.

Our client-to-therapist ratio is 3:1. Because we maintain a high client-to-therapist ratio, the individual treatment plans vary according to the progress of each client.

Every Saturday clients practice eating out at a restaurant of the group's choosing in nearby Abilene. This extraordinary lesson of empowerment includes how to order and how to feel safe with their meal plan in social situations.

The design of our intimate campus is structured to provide a view of the clients at all times.

For the comfort and health of our clients and staff, Shades of Hope is a non-smoking facility. All nicotine and tobacco products are prohibited.

Transition House

Shades of Hope recognizes the need for some clients to have an opportunity to practice the tools learned in residential treatment before returning to their daily lives.

It can be overwhelming for clients to leave primary care and go directly home without some practical experience.

Transitional living at Shades of Hope is an opportunity for the client to become responsible for planning, budgeting, shopping for and preparing their own meals.

Our Transition House is located next to the Main Center to allow effective monitoring of the clients while allowing them the “space” to make their own decisions in recovery.

All clients at the Transition House receives $50.00 per week for groceries. We believe that anyone should be able to manage a budget of $50.00 per week for his or her meal plan. This is based on planning, shopping and preparing meals for one person.

Transition House

Halfway House

Halfway House living is an opportunity for clients in recovery to begin life outside of treatment within the safety net of the nearby treatment center. Clients choose to stay in the Half Way House as they start working part-time and /or attending one of three universities in Abilene.

Residents of the Transition House or Halfway House are responsible for attending weekly groups, meetings and counseling sessions unless working, attending school or by special permission.

An Integrated Approach

The Shades of Hope program of recovery works because it recognizes and treats all aspects of addiction. In most cases, clients can anticipate spending six weeks in residenceand thirty days in Transition House if recommended by the treatment team at the end of the first six weeks.

Our integrated approach is tailored to meet each client's individual needs. Treatment aspects include:

  • Individualand Group Therapy

Treatment at Shades of Hope is intended for those who are serious about finding lasting recovery from their illness. We neither subscribe to nor promote easy and quick remedies for addictions.

Our concern is for the development of a healthy a lifestyle which supports good nutrition, exercise, positive behavior patterns, sound emotional health and spiritual growth through the use of a 12-step program.

The individual uniqueness of each client is respected within the parameters of the program. The parameters of monitoring are expanded as each client makes positive choices towards recovery.

The Family

Because addictions often have an emotional and behavioral impact on the addict's family members, participation of the family and/or of significant others is vital to the recovery process. Family members are asked to participate in the Shades of Hope Family Week. Education and counseling help families understand the client's disorder and provide support and understanding for the family's suffering.
